  • New Manchester base to meet growing demand for Building Information Modelling (BIM) solutions, MagiCAD and MagiCloud
  • Global BIM market estimated to reach USD 5.82 billion by 2019, growing at a CAGR of 17.43%*

Progman, the leading provider of MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) design solutions, is opening a new UK office in central Manchester to directly serve the UK and Irish markets. Progman supplies some of the leading MEP design firms in the UK with its MagiCAD and MagiCloud suite of 3D modelling solutions. MagiCAD is the leading solution that adheres to numerous key UK BIM standards, which are evolving and changing at an ever increasing pace.

The current UK customers who will benefit from Progman’s local Manchester base include Aecom, BDP, Ramboll, Quartzelec and many others. Since April 4th 2016, all centrally procured public sector projects within the UK are required to implement BIM at Level 2. This government mandate requires the move from 2D to 3D collaboration with the aim to cut down on time and materials spent in the build process. With less room for errors, builds are more streamlined and predictable, but it means designers need more advanced Revit and AutoCAD-based solutions.

Jukka Nyman, Managing Director at Progman, said: “We bring a strong Finnish heritage but our Manchester base gives us the ability to visit our customers more easily, and to recruit from the UK’s considerable base of talent for our sales and technical support team. We are now in the process of doubling our team’s size.”

Owing to the demand for BIM solutions, Progman has grown rapidly in the past year and especially during the first quarter of 2016.

Specific solutions for the UK market

The evolving BIM standards in the UK market are cited as one of Progman’s reasons for growth. There are three levels of BIM that the UK government has identified as key drivers in the construction industry. This year, building firms will need to be at BIM Level 2, and Level 3 will come later. (See below graphic). No other provider of MEP BIM software is offering a comprehensive integrated solution like MagiCAD for MEP design. In addition to this MagiCloud’s extensive cloud-based database is Europe’s largest BIM library containing over 1,000,000 real manufacturer MEP products.

“We are the only provider working within the Revit MEP environment, enabling accurate calculations, offering productivity tools and at the same time aligning with UK BIM standards. Our product database alone is far more comprehensive than any other provider focused on MEP,” said Nyman.

Future growth market

Progman’s team in Manchester will meet the needs of builders and designers across the UK and Ireland. Globally, the BIM market was valued at USD 1.75 billion in 2014 and is estimated to reach USD 5.82 billion by 2019, growing at a CAGR of 17.43%*.

“The UK is a key market and one of the largest in Europe. The UK has always been forward-thinking with construction methods, reducing waste, improving the flow of capital, collaboration between stakeholders, and a commitment to clients that they can see their build in 3D while it’s still in design phase,” said Nyman. “Design changes can be made on computerised drawings rather than with physical materials after the build begins. It’s easy to see why BIM is such a priority for the UK government.”
